Summer Mornings

Walking the same path through the seasons is a way to to understand how different nature is from one to the next. Where a few months ago the freezing wind would cause me to pull my hat down to protect my ears, my scarf up to cover my cheeks, I now walk in full green, moisture-laden groves and meadows of summer. The dew has been so thick on some days spring that I will come home drenched if I don't wear rain gear.

I learn some things about attentiveness on early morning paths behind my dogs. I can see when a fox or coyote has recently passed by their reaction at its scent on the bromegrass and snowberry and in the air. There is not a lot they miss, watching and listening to someting moving through the willows and cattails as we approach. I watch and listen too, and let this green water morning seep into my soul, driving out what is not in balance in my life. Getting up to be out at the turn from night to summer daylight keeps us strong, maintains our passion for life and wildness. Us three have the same heart for it.
